Young People Should Not be Apathetic to Politics

In a visible view, it seems that youth has nothing to do with politics. They seem to be apathetic about the political issues that are developing. In fact, most of them don't even care about politics. Their world is only limited to studying, playing games, and pursuing other hobbies.

Political issues are not a pleasant choice in the chat of the millennial generation or young people. Political issues such as general elections are considered a very serious and difficult discussion for the millennial.

In their opinion, elections are only a political ceremonial event for politicians who want to seize power in the political arena. Politics is the business of the elderly and not the business of the millennials or young people.

The five-year democratic festival is only limited to an ordinary routine agenda and has no impact on the lives of the millennial generation, both individually and communally. Elections are seen as celebrations that seem rigid, making empty promises with tantalizing lures, irrational, and without any realization.

They may have actually forgotten, that the price of internet quota, books, pens, and even the price of crackers are affected by politics. This means that politics and the people who make policies heavily affect the stability of this country.

Tanty Maria and Silvy Chiphy, both a citizen journalist from East Nusa Tenggara, in their writing "Shooting Millennial Political Interests" revealed that, in order to get rid of primitive, minor assumptions about elections, election organizers, political parties participating in elections, and politicians, must be able to package agendas. elections according to the stages touch more on the desires or interests that are currently being loved by the millennial generation.

Given the large number and potential of the "today's" generation in the 2024 elections, outreach activities and education for first-time voters must be packaged in a simpler, more attractive form, and adapted to the current situation. Gaining millennial political sympathy requires more innovative, creative, and interesting tactics and strategies.

The patterns of socialization and education for beginner voters that are carried out should be in line with the tastes of the millennial generation so that the atmosphere of the election is truly of high quality in the eyes of the millennial generation. (ekorantt.com/14 November 2022/mengail minat politik milenial).

Aidil Ihfar, a citizen journalist from Aceh in his article entitled "2024 Election in the Eyes of Generation Z (the generation born around 1997 to the 2000s)" explained, to increase awareness of Generation Z of the importance of exercising their voting rights, namely by disseminating information through content educative content In this way they understand the importance of being concerned about politics because it has a close relationship with the changes they will face in the future.

He hopes that Generation Z will be more intense in searching for valid information regarding elections and will participate in monitoring political movements in the country. Increasing political literacy, realizing that the price of internet quota, which is a daily necessity, will always be influenced by the political dynamics in this country.

With access to information that is getting easier and also has to be selected wisely, the right to vote is very valuable. With the voice they use will have a positive impact on the country through leaders who are chosen wisely. But if Generation Z understands their rights and obligations, then when the quota price rises, they can only blame the president who is in office. (perempuanleuser.com/25 Oktober 2022pemilu 2024 di mata generasi z).

Likewise in the report by Nurul Muhdiah, a young women citizen journalist from East Aceh entitled "Political Education for Beginners" quoting the statement from the Head of the Banda Aceh People's Representative Council (DPRK), Farid Nyak Umar, said that the younger generation has a responsibility to ensure leadership at the city, provincial, and the national levels runs well.

This is Because the younger generation has rights and obligations as citizens of the city in every development process. The involvement of millennials in the political sphere is very important to encourage the progress of regions/cities, especially Banda Aceh, that's why Farid invited young people not to be apathetic to politics.

"The local government needs to provide good political education and understanding to millennials so that they want to be actively involved in politics because the future of this city really depends on youth as successors," Farid said.

Although on the other hand, the factors of economic shortage and a lack of political understanding are also the causes of people being trapped in black campaign holes ahead of the elections. Usually, this targets vulnerable communities such as mothers whose knowledge still lacking, plus many people choose abstention due to the lack of political education. The role of rural youth is very much needed in this regard. (portalsatu.com/25 November 2022/pendidikan politik untuk pemilih pemula di banda aceh)
